Lot 55:
Description
A carton containing a collection of assorted decorative household goods from the Fornasetti Milano Tema e Variazioni series. The lot includes double-sided square cushions featuring various monochrome motifs of the face of Lina Cavalieri, including a face peering through a keyhole, a face with a bee on the nose, and a face behind a mesh veil. The textiles bear a black woven label featuring a white graphic of a hand holding a paintbrush with a line through it, reading FORNASETTI – MILANO MADE IN ITALY. The lot further comprises two porcelain wall plates: one numbered 137 featuring a gold-toned pansy in the mouth, and one numbered 160 featuring a gold-leafed finish with a central portrait wearing a knitted balaclava. Both plates are marked to the reverse with a printed black eye motif above TEMA E VARIAZIONI, the respective numbers, and the hand-and-brush logo for FORNASETTI – MILANO MADE IN ITALY. Also included are three scented candles in ceramic vessels; a large three-wick vessel with a star motif, a gold and white checkerboard vessel with a pointed lid, and a white vessel with red lips and a mesh pattern with a matching lid.
Condition report:
The cushions exhibit visible staining and brownish discoloration to the white fabric areas, notably to the centre and right cushions (photo 6) and the centre cushion (photo 7). The porcelain plates appear in good condition and include wire wall-hanging attachments to the reverse (photo 3). The candles have been used, with the wax surface in the largest vessel appearing discolored and uneven (photo 5). There is minor wear and a small chip to the gold finish on the edge of the checkerboard candle lid (photo 4).
