Description
Two framed drawings on paper by David John Roberts, executed in charcoal and white chalk. The works feature expressive, gestural line work in a monochrome palette. The larger composition is an elevated view of a congested urban road under a large arched structure, with an industrial bridge in the background and a prominent sign in the foreground reading LANE CLOSED.
The second work depicts a bustling street or market scene with multiple figures, including a central vendor and a child. A white typed label on the verso is titled THE MISTLETOE SELLER and describes the medium as Charcoal and white chalk on paper. Both works are presented in black frames with white and grey mounts.
Condition report:
Both works appear to be in good overall condition. The paper of the larger work shows slight undulation throughout (photo 1). The frames exhibit minor scuffing and small losses to the black finish at the corners and edges (photo 1, 2). The mounts and glazing appear sound.
