Lot 70:
Description
This lot comprises a framed mixed-media and pastel drawing on paper titled Lambing. The expressive composition depicts two hunched, heavily textured figures tending to a newborn lamb, rendered in charcoal, wash, and graphite with highlights of earthy red pastel. The drawing features deckled, uneven edges and is presented in a linen-lined mount within a silver-gilt wooden frame. A graphite inscription in the lower right corner of the paper reads ‘Study for / Lambing / Anda Paterson / Mar 90’. A white adhesive label attached to the reverse is inscribed with ‘ANDA PATERSON RSW RGI. / LAMBING. / mixed media & pastel / TEAMWAY ALBERT DRIVE / GLASGOW.’ and includes additional references to ‘Compass / Fine Art / West Regent St’.
Frame size 94 x 74.5cm.
Condition report:
The silver-gilt wooden frame shows surface scuffing and minor abrasions (photo 1). Small losses to the silvering are visible at the corners (photo 1). The backing paper is aged, brittle, and peeling away from the frame (photo 4). The drawing itself appears stable within the mount.
