Description
A set of assorted Portuguese earthenware tableware in a green cabbage leaf pattern. This lot comprises various pieces of relief-moulded pottery featuring a vibrant green lead-type glaze with white-painted veining details. The collection includes a group of kidney-shaped side dishes, each bearing a dark ink stamp on the base reading SECLA PORTUGAL. Also included is a large round serving bowl with a scalloped rim, featuring an impressed mark under the glaze on the base reading SUBTIL PORTUGAL P 407. A lidded pot with a raised leaf handle and a notch for a spoon bears an impressed mark to the base reading SUBTIL PORTUGAL P 128. The set is completed by a medium round leaf-shaped plate. All pieces are decorated with high-relief moulded textures mimicking the natural surface of a cabbage leaf.
Condition report:
Fine surface crazing is visible to the glazed bases of the Subtil pieces, specifically the large serving bowl (photo 6) and the lidded pot (photo 8). The lot exhibits minor glaze pops and pinholes across several pieces, which are characteristic of the firing process for this type of earthenware. No significant chips, cracks, or professional repairs are visible to the rims or bodies of any items in the provided photographs (photo 1, photo 2, photo 4, photo 5, photo 7).
