Description
This lot comprises a collection of assorted German Vitroporzellan tea and tableware in the Anjou pattern. The inventory includes a lidded teapot and assorted mugs, each decorated with brown monochrome transfer-printed hunting scenes including running deer and a hunter with a hound and rifle. The tableware includes a large lidded tureen and assorted two-handled soup bowls, featuring scenes of foxes, hunters, and hounds. Also included are assorted saucers with a repeating border motif of hounds and deer.
The base of the pieces bears a brown printed circular backstamp. The text in the outer ring reads METTLACHER KUPFERSTICH · UNTERGLASURDEKOR · SEIT 1809 · MADE IN GERMANY ·, surrounding a central logo with a winged head and caducei over a banner reading VILLEROY & BOCH and METTLACH. The pattern name Anjou and the material Vitroporzellan are printed beneath the circular mark.
Condition report:
The teapot lid finial is broken off and detached (photo 2). The remaining pieces show no other visible chips or cracks.
