Description
This lot comprises four cartons and a plastic crate containing a collection of assorted silver-plated and metal tableware, novelties, and flatware. The larger hollowware includes a silver-plated Monteith-style punch bowl with a scalloped rim, lion-mask ring handles, and a gadrooned pedestal base, alongside a campana-form wine cooler featuring twin scroll handles and beaded borders.
The dressing table and novelty items include a crown-form ornament set with blue glass cabochons, a pair of miniature riding boot ornaments, a white-bristled hairbrush with a silver-plated handle, and a matching hand mirror. Two small rectangular boxes are present, one featuring a repoussé horse to the lid. Table appointments comprise assorted condiment sets, including salt and pepper shakers with blue glass liners, mustard pots, open salts, and various napkin rings with pierced and engraved decoration.
The serving ware includes multiple sauce boats with three-footed bases, a five-bar wirework toast rack, a covered butter dish with an ornate handle, and several cream jugs. The flatware comprises a large quantity of assorted cutlery, including ladles, serving spoons, and knives with bone-effect or celluloid handles.
Marks are visible on several items including the underside of the sauce boats and the base of the large urn, though they are not clearly legible as names. The presence of base metal showing through on worn edges suggests the majority of the items are electro-plated nickel silver (EPNS) or electro-plated Britannia metal (EPBM).
Condition report:
The collection shows signs of heavy use throughout. Significant surface tarnish and oxidation are present on the wine cooler (photo 5) and across the flatware (photo 6). Extensive plate loss is visible on several pieces, particularly on the interior of the sauce boats and the rims of the larger bowls (photo 4, photo 6). The hairbrush bristles are yellowed and show wear (photo 2). Several lids on the condiment pots appear slightly misaligned, and one glass shaker has a small chip to the rim (photo 2). Surface scratches and small dents are visible on the larger serving vessels (photo 5).
