Lot 25:
Description
This lot comprises a hand knotted silk pictorial rug featuring an elaborate Tree of Life central panel depicting a flowering tree with birds. The central scene is set within a cream field decorated with a dense geometric lattice pattern. This field is further populated with multiple rectangular and lozenge-shaped pictorial vignettes showing architectural motifs, vases overflowing with flowers, and floral sprays. The rug is framed by multiple borders, with the primary wide border featuring repeating vase and floral motifs in a rust orange colour. The construction consists of a silk pile on a silk foundation. In the lower border, a small rectangular cartouche contains characters in Persian script, though these characters are not legible as a name. The reverse side features hand-stitched protective leather strips along the long edges.
Horizontal weave density measured at approximately 10-11 knots per linear centimetre.
Approx. 135 x 205cm.
Condition report:
The rug appears to be in very good condition. The silk pile is uniform and well-preserved across the entire surface (photo 1). The colours remain vibrant with no signs of fading or bleeding. Fringes are intact, full, and clean (photo 1). There are no visible stains, holes, or previous repairs. The hand-stitched leather strips on the reverse are securely attached (photo 4).
