Description

A collection of three gold-plated commemorative medals each celebrating a specific verse from the patriotic song Rule, Britannia!. The obverse design, common to the group, features a seated Britannia with a trident and lion, alongside a shield bearing a colourised Union Jack. The obverse inscriptions include RULE BRITANNIA, UNITED KINGDOM OF GREAT BRITAIN, and the refrain Britons never, never, never shall be slaves!.

The reverse designs differ for each medal to correspond with a particular verse. The first medal depicts an angelic figure above a coastline with the text When Britain first at heaven’s command, arose from out the azure main…. The second medal features a mounted knight with a spear and a Union Jack flag, inscribed The nations not so blest as thee must, in their turn, to tyrants fall…. The fifth medal displays a panoramic view of the London skyline, including the Palace of Westminster, with the text To thee belongs the rural reign, Thy cities shall with commerce shine….

Each medal is housed in a clear plastic protective sleeve and is accompanied by a corresponding card bearing the heading CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. These certificates include the verse number, the serial numbers 02397, 00773, and 00132, and the reference codes 917.324.1 NAT, 917.324.2 NAT, and 917.324.5 NAT respectively. A small blue crest logo is printed at the bottom centre of each certificate.
