Description

Two Troika earthenware studio pottery vases produced in Cornwall, England. Both pieces feature the characteristic brutalist aesthetic of the factory, with heavily textured “St. Ives” style glazes and relief-moulded geometric and abstract designs in a palette of earthy browns, blues, and creams.

The first item is a wheel vase of circular, flat-sided form. One face depicts a stylized relief motif with flowing lines and a triangular shape in cream and blue against a textured brown ground, while the reverse displays an architectural, tiered grid pattern. The base is hand-painted with the mark “TROIKA” and a decorator monogram “A”.

The second item is a chimney vase of tall rectangular form. One face features two recessed square panels containing central circular motifs; the upper circle is finished in a textured brown tone and the lower in white. The reverse face displays an inverted triangle above a solar or cog-wheel motif. The narrow sides are finished in a mottled green and grey glaze. The base is hand-painted with the mark “TROIKA CORNWALL” and a decorator monogram “G”, identifying the piece as the work of decorator Shirley Glossop.

Condition report:

Both vases are in very good original condition with no visible chips, cracks, or professional repairs. The heavily textured and pitted surface is an intentional characteristic of the manufacturing process and artist\'s design.
