Description

This limited edition colour offset lithograph print is titled The First of the Many, after an original painting by aviation artist Michael Turner, P.G.Av.A. The composition depicts Chief Test Pilot Alex Henshaw flight-testing a Supermarine Spitfire Mk.II, serial P7281, over the Castle Bromwich aircraft factory in June 1940. The print is hand-signed in pencil by the artist in the lower right margin and additionally signed by the pilot, Alex Henshaw, in the lower left margin. This piece is hand-numbered 352/850 in the lower right. Centrally printed text below the image provides the title and historical details. Published by Aston Publications Ltd. in 1988. The print is presented in a cream-coloured mount and a gold-toned metal frame.

Condition report:

The print appears to be in good overall condition with no evidence of foxing or fading visible through the glass. There is some minor surface soiling and light marks to the mount, particularly towards the bottom edge. The gold-toned metal frame shows light surface scratches and wear consistent with age. This item has not been examined out of the frame.
