Description
A carton containing a collection of assorted vitreous enamel kitchenware and accessories in a monochrome checked pattern. Each of the three canisters and the small bowl features an applied rectangular brass-tone metal plaque reading MACKENZIE-CHILDS below a crest depicting a crown and thistle. The collection comprises a large upright canister, two medium canisters, a small rounded bowl, and a paper towel holder. The canisters are finished with bronzed stainless steel rims and matching lids, each topped with a gold-tone ornate base and a carved red resin cinnabar-style knob. The paper towel holder features a wooden base with a checked enamel insert, a metallic gold-tone central post, and a clear faceted acrylic finial. The Courtly Check decoration is hand-painted with visible multi-coloured under-shading in blue, green, and yellow tones.
Condition report:
The enamel surfaces show signs of regular use with several small chips exposing the underlying dark metal, primarily located around the bases and rims of the canisters (photos 3 and 4). The brass-tone plaques on all canisters exhibit significant surface wear and tarnishing, with green oxidation visible on the label of the largest canister (photo 3). The bowl shows light interior surface wear and minor scuffing to the exterior checks (photo 4). The paper towel holder post shows light surface scratching and dulling to the gold-tone finish, and the wooden base has minor scuffs (photo 5).
