Description
This lot comprises two mahogany furniture items including an octagonal side table and an armchair. The octagonal side table is finished with a boxwood stringing border to the top, set on four square tapered legs with an X-form stretcher and centrally turned finial. The open armchair features a rectangular back with an arched top rail and three vertical slats, the central slat pierced with scrollwork and foliate motifs. The mahogany frame includes stringing to the back, swept arms, and tapered legs with spade feet. The drop-in seat is upholstered in a yellow, orange, and brown flame-stitch needlepoint fabric, with woven jute webbing and wooden corner blocks to the underside. A small cream-coloured rectangular label pinned to the mahogany frame reads • LIBERTY • LONDON.
Condition report:
The side table top exhibits multiple visible surface scratches, scuffs, and areas of finish loss (photo 2). The armchair shows moderate wear to the polish on the arms and legs (photo 1 and 4). The needlepoint upholstery is in good condition without visible tears or staining (photo 4). The structural integrity of both pieces is sound, though the chair webbing shows minor sagging (photo 5).
