Description

This lot comprises a nine-drawer tabletop chest constructed from a dark-stained wood, featuring hand-painted polychrome decoration in a traditional regional style. The drawers are arranged in a three-by-three grid and display simple box construction with butt-jointed corners visible at the top. The drawer fronts are decorated with intricate floral spandrels, geometric lattice patterns, and a central circular medallion featuring a red and blue harlequin design, all unified by a large circular border spanning multiple drawer faces. Each drawer is fitted with a patinated dark metal ring pull mounted on a lobed, flower-shaped backplate. The interiors of the drawers show a medium-brown stain over an open wood grain. The frame and side panels are finished in a dark, near-black stain.

Width 80cm, Depth 30.5cm, Height 80cm.

Condition report:

The piece shows overall signs of use and age. There are scattered scuffs and shallow scratches across the top surface (photo 3). The painted decoration shows minor wear and small losses at the edges of the drawer fronts (photo 1). There is a significant wedge-shaped chip and loss of wood to the lower rear corner of the right-hand side panel, exposing the light-coloured natural wood beneath the stain (photo 5). The metal hardware shows surface oxidation and a darkened patina (photo 6).
