Description
This nine drawer apothecary-style chest is constructed from a stained softwood with a dark brown finish to the top and sides. The front features an elaborate hand-painted design with a textured finish, arranged in a 3×3 grid of drawers. The decoration comprises a large central circle containing floral and geometric patterns in deep blue, red, green, and white. A black and white checkerboard roundel is positioned on the central drawer. Each drawer is fitted with a dark-toned cast metal ring pull on a scalloped backplate. The corners are decorated with floral sprays, and a painted rope-twist motif runs along the plinth base. The drawers are made of solid wood with stained interiors. There are no maker’s marks, signatures, or labels present on the piece.

The painted decoration shows minor edge wear and small chips consistent with use, and there are yellow paint drips on the right side of the bottom plinth (photo 7). Several drawers contain white paint splashes on the interior base and sides (photo 2). General scuffing and finish wear are visible along the carcass edges and base.
