Lot 3:
Description
This lot comprises a hand knotted Persian carpet originating from the city of Nain, Iran. The carpet features a traditional central multi-lobed floral medallion set within an ivory field, densely filled with scrolling islimi vines, Shah Abbas palmettes, and delicate floral sprays. The colour palette includes shades of midnight blue, light blue, ochre, and burgundy. It is constructed with a fine wool pile on a cotton foundation, incorporating silk highlights to the outlines of the floral motifs for added definition. The reverse edges are reinforced with sewn-on dark brown leather protective strips to prevent curling and protect the selvedges. As shown in the scale reference, the weave density is approximately 22 to 23 knots per linear inch, equating to a high grade 6La construction with approximately 480 to 530 knots per square inch.
Approx. 190 x 250cm.
Condition report:
The carpet is in excellent condition with no visible signs of wear, thinning, or fading to the pile. The field remains clean and the colours are vibrant. The fringes at both ends are full, clean, and intact (images 3 and 4). The selvedges are straight and well preserved, and the leather edge reinforcements on the reverse are secure and undamaged (image 5).
