Lot 27:
Description
This lot comprises a hand-knotted Persian rug featuring a Mihrab design. The central cream field is decorated with a millefleurs floral pattern of blossoms and scrolling foliage, flanked by two pale blue architectural columns supporting a triple-arch arcade. The main border is navy blue with repeating stylised floral palmettes and rosettes, enclosed by multiple guard borders with scrolling vine motifs. The piece is constructed with a wool pile on a cotton foundation. The reverse of the rug shows a high-density weave. Measurement across the reverse against a metric and imperial scale indicates 6 to 7 knots per centimetre, equivalent to 16 knots per linear inch (photo 3).
Approx. 155 x 220cm.
Condition report:
The rug appears to be in very good overall condition with no visible faults. The pile is consistent with no significant areas of wear visible (photo 2). The fringes are intact and clean (photo 1). The selvedges appear straight and well-maintained.
