Description

A collection of Mason’s Patent Ironstone ceramics in two patterns, housed in a single carton. The assortment comprises bulbous ginger jars with domed lids and an oval lidded trinket box. The items feature a white earthenware body decorated with transfer-printed floral motifs, hand-painted highlights, and gilt detailing. The Chartreuse pattern is characterised by large green floral blooms and scrolling foliage, while the Brown Velvet pattern features rust-red, yellow, and brown floral sprays with scrolling brown foliage.

The bases of the Chartreuse pieces bear a green printed mark consisting of the word MASON’S above a crown, with a banner below reading IRONSTONE MADE IN ENGLAND. The pattern name Chartreuse is written in script above the words PRINTED AND HAND PAINTED. Small handwritten marks DW and c1 are also present. The Brown Velvet pieces bear a reddish-brown printed mark with MASON’S above a crown and a banner reading PATENT IRONSTONE, with the pattern name Brown Velvet in script and MADE IN ENGLAND below. Hand-painted red marks including the letter R, 10, and V7 are visible on the undersides.

Condition report:

The ceramics are in good overall condition with no visible chips, cracks, or repairs to the bodies or lids (photos 1-3). Fine surface crazing is visible on the underside base of the larger Brown Velvet ginger jar (photo 4). The gilt highlights and hand-painted decoration appear generally intact across all items.
