Lot 4:
Description
This lot comprises a pair of commemorative medallions titled The Queen’s Speeches, each presented in a protective plastic capsule and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The medallions feature a bi-metallic construction with a gold-coloured outer ring and a silver-coloured inner core. The shared obverse design depicts three overlapping profile portraits of Queen Elizabeth II in the centre, surrounded by the inscription SPEECHES OF HM QUEEN ELIZABETH II • D • G • REGINA against a dark, petaled background and a gold-coloured guilloche border.
The first medallion commemorates the Accession Speech 8th February 1952, featuring a reverse with a transcribed quote beginning MY HEART IS TOO FULL FOR ME TO SAY MORE TO YOU TODAY… alongside an Elizabeth R signature and a small portrait. The second medallion commemorates the Coronation Broadcast 2nd June 1953, featuring a reverse with a quote beginning THEREFORE I AM SURE THAT THIS, MY CORONATION, IS NOT THE SYMBOL OF A POWER… and an illustration of the St. Edward’s Crown.
Accompanying the items are two white paper certificates titled The Queen’s speeches. Each certificate features a printed blue heraldic crest at the base, which is not legible as a name, and bears a unique serial number printed in black: 00473 and 04068.
Condition report:
The medallions are in brilliant uncirculated condition with no visible wear, marks, or toning to the surfaces (photo 1, 2). The protective plastic capsules show minor surface scratching (photo 1). The certificates of authenticity appear in excellent condition with no visible creases or stains (photo 1, 2).
