Description
An assortment of vintage glass marbles presented in a rectangular wooden box with an oriental style lacquered finish. The collection includes a variety of glass marble types in multiple sizes, including cat’s eyes with multi-coloured internal swirls in yellow, red, blue, and green, as well as transparent clearies and opaque swirl designs. Several larger shooter marbles are also present within the lot. The wooden box features a black lacquered exterior with a central diamond-shaped panel on the lid depicting a hand-painted oriental scene. This scene includes figures on a bridge, a pagoda-style building, and stylised water and trees with gold-tone highlights. The four corners of the lid are decorated in a dark red lacquer with gold quatrefoil floral motifs. The interior of the box is unlined wood, and the lid is attached by two brass-toned metal hinges.
Condition report:
The wooden box shows significant signs of age and use, with extensive loss of lacquer and paint along the edges and corners of both the lid and the base. Surface scratches and abrasions are visible across the central decorative panel. The interior wood shows minor staining and wear consistent with age. The hinges remain functional. The glass marbles are in generally good condition, although individual pieces likely exhibit small moon bruises and minor surface chips expected from play-worn vintage glass toys.
