Description
A professional Canon FD 600mm 1:4.5 telephoto prime lens designed for the Canon FD mount 35mm SLR system. This heavy-duty lens is constructed from metal alloy with a textured light-grey finish and black rubberised control surfaces. It features a distinctive side-mounted rack-and-pinion style focusing knob, with scales marked in metres (12m to infinity in green) and feet (40ft to infinity in white). The aperture ring provides a range from f/4.5 to f/32, including a green A setting for automatic aperture control on compatible camera bodies. A silver-tone identification plate is riveted to the barrel and inscribed: Canon, CANON LENS, FD 600mm 1:4.5, 10287, CANON LENS MADE IN JAPAN. The lens is fitted with a built-in tripod mounting foot and an attached black shoulder strap. It is housed in the original metal-edged hard flight case, identified by a plate reading Carrying Case-2 for Canon Lens FD 600mm-1:4.5. The exterior of the case is decorated with several vintage 1990s Formula 1 racing stickers, including F1 – Imola 94, Autodromo di Monza, and Gran Premio di San Marino, suggesting professional sports photography provenance. The lot includes the original leather-style Canon front lens cap and a rear cap.
Condition report:
The lens barrel shows significant cosmetic wear consistent with heavy professional use, including scuffs, scratches, and paint loss. There is notable paint wear and unidentified residue on the front rim of the objective housing. While the large front element appears clear with intact coatings, the internal optics have not been inspected for dust, haze, or fungus. The mechanical smoothness and accuracy of the focusing and aperture rings have not been tested. The original flight case shows extensive external wear, scuffing, and minor oxidation to the metal hardware, though the red velvet-lined interior remains intact.
