Lot 32:
Description
This lot comprises an assortment of four 20th-century oil paintings featuring maritime and urban subjects. The primary work is an oil on canvas by John Bampfield, signed in the lower left corner. It depicts a nocturnal harbour scene with tall ships moored alongside a street with glowing shopfronts and gas lamps, rendered with textured brushwork and atmospheric lighting. This piece is housed in a dark wood frame with decorative brass corner brackets. A second large oil on canvas, signed K HAMMOND in the lower right, shows several galleons in a misty, sepia-toned bay, presented in a matching brass-mounted frame. The third work is a mid-century impressionist street scene, likely Parisian, in a pale blue and grey palette with stylised figures, signed LEWIS in the lower right and currently wrapped in protective plastic. The fourth painting is an oil on canvas board featuring two moored fishing vessels in a calm, minimalist seascape, signed S. Durand in the lower left and set in a dark wood frame with a gilt inner slip.
Condition report:
All four paintings appear to be in good auctionable condition with no significant craquelure or paint loss visible. There is light surface dirt consistent with age. The frames show minor scuffs and wear to the edges and corners.
