Lot 33:
Description
This lot comprises three landscape paintings executed in oil on canvas, dating from the mid-to-late 20th century. The first work depicts an autumnal river scene with woodland rendered in a palette of burnt sienna, ochre, and brown. It features textured impasto highlights and is signed I. CAFIERI to the lower-left. It is housed in a dark wooden frame with a gilt inner slip. The second painting is a romanticised pastoral scene in a soft, misty palette of pale blues and pinks, featuring a solitary figure in a pink dress gathered among wildflowers. It is signed Stephen to the lower-right and is presented in a silvered wood frame. The third work is a wide-format composition showing groups of stylized trees with exposed branches set within a flat, neutral-toned field. This piece is signed JOHN HOOLEY to the lower-right and is set in a broad, dark wood frame. All three works utilize palette knife and brush impasto techniques to define foreground foliage and tree textures.
Condition report:
All three paintings are in good overall condition. The canvases remain taut with no visible signs of paint loss, flaking, or craquelure. There is a light accumulation of surface dust consistent with age. The frames are structurally sound but show typical minor surface wear, including light scuffs and small nicks to the edges.
