Lot 29:
Description
A collection of multiple stylized figurative works by the Jamaican artist Headley Thompson. The pieces are executed in a modernist folk style, using bold, flat areas of primary and secondary colours, likely in gouache or acrylic on paper and unstretched canvas. The subject matter depicts highly elongated, minimalist figures in various poses including manual labour with fruit baskets, social interactions, and a mother with her child. Each work is signed in the lower right corner Headley Thompson Jamaica, W.I. and includes a circled date of either 84 or 86. Five of the works are presented in black or gilt-metal frames with contrasting black or white mounts. One work remains an unframed sheet of unstretched canvas or heavy paper with rough edges.
Condition report:
The framed works appear in overall good condition with vibrant colours. Several of the pieces show visible mat burn along the edges of the mounts. The unframed work shows light creasing and fraying at the periphery.
