Lot 9:
Description
An assortment of disassembled antique laundry mangle components manufactured by G.W.S. Iron Works in Keighley, West Yorkshire. The primary structure is constructed from cast iron, originally finished in a sage green paint. The side frames feature a relief-cast central medallion depicting a tied wheatsheaf, surrounded by the maker mark and location. Included in the set are two wooden rollers on iron axles with integrated gearing, a large four-spoke cast iron handwheel with a wooden crank handle, a curved top bridge piece, and a multi-leaf tension spring. Further components comprise a perforated gear guard, various small brackets, and a large T-handle tensioning screw. The design and decorative elements indicate production during the late 19th or early 20th century.
Condition report:
The components are in a heavily damaged, as-found state suitable for restoration or salvage only. All cast iron parts exhibit significant surface oxidation and extensive paint loss throughout. Structural damage is present, including one of the main side frames having a clean break at the upper vertical section. The perforated gear guard is incomplete with a large section broken away. The wooden rollers show deep longitudinal cracking and weathering commensurate with age and storage.
