Lot 138:
Description
This lot comprises two hand-carved decorative weapons presented in a modern display frame. The first weapon is a long spear with a broad, leaf-shaped head and a straight shaft. The second is a hooked club, fashioned in the style of a traditional Hawaiian leiomano, featuring small shark teeth lashed to the outer edges of the hooked head with fine cord. Both items are crafted from a dense, dark-stained hardwood. Natural fibre cord is wrapped around the grips and at the junction points of the heads. The weapons are mounted against a neutral linen-textured backing within a mahogany-finished wooden shadow box frame behind glass. These items are contemporary decorative productions in the Pacific islander style.
208cm x 43cm.
Condition report:
The weapons and display are in excellent overall condition. The wooden surfaces of the weapons are smooth with a consistent finish and no visible damage. The shark teeth are intact and the lashing remains tight. The fibre wraps are secure without fraying. The shadow box frame is structurally sound with only minor shelf wear to the external edges.
