Description

A collection of porcelain dinnerware and service pieces occupying four cartons. The lot is composed of white porcelain decorated with wide acid-etched gold foliate and geometric borders. The service includes a large footed soup tureen with a notched lid, two circular covered vegetable tureens, two sauce boats with integrated oval underplates, and an assortment of rimmed soup bowls, dinner plates, and side plates. The pieces feature fully gilded handles and pinecone finials.

The base of the pieces bears a green printed mark consisting of a crown above two crossed batons, with the word ‘Rosenthal’ above ‘SELB-BAVARIA’ and ‘JOSEPHINE’.

Condition report:

A visible chip is present on the rim of the integrated underplate of one sauce boat (photo 4). The finial on the large soup tureen lid shows a loss of gilding or a variation in surface texture compared to the smaller tureens (photo 2). There are minor surface marks and light shelf wear to the gilded borders consistent with use.
