Lot 2:
Description
A clear glass powder jar with a silver-mounted lid and a similar hand brush. The powder jar base is of circular form with a star-cut radial design to the underside. The domed lid features an inset of dark tortoiseshell with lighter mottling, secured within a silver rim. The rim is struck with a series of hallmarks: the maker’s initials ‘L&S’, an anchor (Birmingham assay office), a lion passant (sterling silver), and the lowercase date letter ‘u’ for 1919. The hand brush features a similar dark faux-tortoiseshell back effect and handle with a silver-coloured border and light-coloured natural bristles. The metal mounting on the brush is not silver.
