Lot 116:
Description
A French neoclassical style bergere armchair featuring a light-coloured hardwood frame, with a distressed grey-washed finish. The chair is constructed with a high rectangular back and curved sides, both inset with panels of hand-woven cane work. The frame features moulded detailing throughout and the armrests are fitted with upholstered pads. The chair is supported by four fluted and tapered legs. Upholstery consists of a loose seat cushion and a lumbar pillow, both finished in a light grey or oatmeal-coloured fabric. No maker’s marks, labels, or stamps are visible on the piece.
Condition report:
The wooden frame shows significant structural damage on the curved top rail of the chair\'s back, where the wood has split and splintered through the moulding (photo 3). The fabric on the arm pads shows light fraying and wear at the points of contact with the frame (photo 1). The seat cushion fabric displays compression from use, and the lumbar pillow shows a faint watermark-like stain (photo 1). The hand-woven cane panels appear to be intact without visible breaks. The distressed finish is a design feature and includes simulated wear.
