Lot 58:
Description
This work is an oil on board depicting a serene lakeside landscape, likely inspired by scenery in the British Isles. The composition is framed by a tall evergreen tree in the left foreground and deciduous trees with yellow autumnal foliage to the right, which overlook a pebbly shoreline featuring scattered driftwood. The middle ground contains a calm blue body of water leading to a distant shoreline with a row of trees and green fields, all set against a backdrop of rolling blue mountains under an overcast sky. The artist has used a textured application of paint, with visible impasto in the rendering of the shoreline stones and foreground foliage, while the water and sky transitions are more softly blended. A signature applied in yellow paint in the lower right corner reads Robert Dawson 1992. The painting is presented in a gilt-finished composite frame featuring a dark green inner slip.
Frame size 58 x 68 cm.
Condition report:
The paint surface appears stable with no visible losses, flaking, or craquelure (photo 1). A light layer of surface dust is present across the canvas. The gilt-finished frame shows minor scuffing and small chips to the outer corners consistent with age and handling (photo 1).
