Description

This lot comprises two deluxe multi-media vinyl box sets by the British rock band Motörhead, issued by Sanctuary Records and BMG to celebrate the 40th anniversaries of their seminal recordings from 1979 and 1980.

The first set is titled Motörhead – 79 (catalogue number BMGCAT386BOX) and focuses on the Overkill and Bomber albums. The set contains seven LPs and one 7-inch single. The LPs include half-speed mastered editions of Overkill and Bomber, the double live albums Live at Friars, Aylesbury (31st March 1979) and Live at La Rotunde, Le Mans (3rd November 1979), and a ten-song compilation of B-sides and outtakes titled The Rest From 79. It also includes a trifold No Class 7-inch single. Merchandise includes a 40-page book titled Melody Breaker: The Story of 79, a reproduction Bomber tour programme, a Motörhead 79 badge set, and reproduction Overkill sheet music. The box is finished with a black leather-jacket texture and includes a brown paper wrap-around band.

The second set is Motörhead – Ace of Spades (catalogue number BMGCAT432BOX). It contains eight LPs, one 10-inch EP, and one DVD. The LPs comprise a half-speed mastered Ace of Spades album, the double live albums Live at Whitla Hall, Belfast (23rd December 1981) and Live at Parc Expo, Orleans (5th March 1981), and a double LP of B-sides and outtakes titled The Good, The Broke and The Ugly. The set also includes a 10-inch EP of demo instrumentals titled A Fistful of Instrumentals and the Ace on Your Screens DVD. Merchandise consists of a 40-page book titled Born to Lose, Live to Win: The Ace of Spades Story, a reproduction Ace Up Your Sleeve tour programme, a Rock Commando comic reproduction, and a set of five Motörhead poker dice with a gaming board built into the box lid. The box is designed to resemble a wooden crate with a printed leather and bullet belt motif.

Condition report:

Packaging: Both outer boxes are structurally sound with minor shelf wear and light bumping to the corners. The wrap-around brown paper band on the 79 box set has a significant horizontal tear at the bottom centre of the reverse and shows general creasing and edge wear. The Ace of Spades paper band remains intact with minor rubbing. Media/Inserts: The vinyl and internal components have not been removed from their sleeves for inspection but are assumed to be in Excellent to Near Mint condition based on the external state of the housing.
