Description
A substantial collection of assorted 12″ vinyl records, primarily comprising 1990s Golden Age hip-hop and 1980s reggae and dancehall. The lot includes full-length LPs, double and triple LP sets, and 12″ singles.
Hip-hop highlights include original or early pressings of seminal albums such as Nas: Illmatic (Columbia); Jay-Z: Reasonable Doubt (Roc-A-Fella/Freeze, 1996) and Vol. 2… Hard Knock Life (Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam, 1998); The Notorious B.I.G.: Life After Death (Bad Boy, 1997) triple LP; A Tribe Called Quest: Midnight Marauders (Jive, 1993); Mobb Deep: The Infamous… (Loud/RCA, 1995); and Mos Def & Talib Kweli are Black Star (Rawkus, 1998). A notable item is the Gang Starr: Moment of Truth (Noo Trybe/Virgin, 1998) triple LP set, with the front cover bearing multiple signatures in black marker, including characters appearing to read M.C., Guru, and Price Blunted. Other artists represented include Public Enemy, Boogie Down Productions, Camp Lo, Smif-N-Wessun, Lost Boyz, and Lyricist Lounge Volume One. Diverse 12″ singles are present on labels such as Nervous, Hydra Entertainment, Capitol, and Uproar!.
The reggae and dancehall selection features several 12″ singles on the Greensleeves label including titles by Gregory Isaacs, Wayne Smith, and Nitty Gritty. Also present is Gregory Isaacs: If You See My Mary on African Museum (AM/P1 A-1) translucent blue vinyl, and titles produced by King Jammy for artists including John Holt and Johnny Osbourne. Multiple volumes of The Good Groove compilation series on the ZigZag label (ZAG-104-EP, ZAG-105-LP, ZAG-107-LP, ZAG-109-EP) are also included.
The collection is rounded out with soul, funk, and pop titles, including Michael Jackson: Thriller (Epic) and Farewell My Summer Love (Motown); Funkadelic: Free Your Mind… And Your Ass Will Follow; and singles by Sister Sledge, En Vogue, and Queen Latifah.
