Description

A pine chest of drawers presented in a two-over-two configuration. The piece features a rectangular overhanging top with a simple square edge, positioned above two short drawers and two full-width graduated drawers. The drawer fronts are distinguished by horizontal reeding, intended to simulate matchboard or tongue-and-groove construction. The chest is crafted from pine with a visible grain, finished in a dark stain or wax. Each drawer is fitted with a central keyhole. The carcase is supported by a deep, continuous plinth base. While the internal drawer construction is not fully visible, the exterior demonstrates traditional cabinet-making techniques of the late 19th century. There is clear evidence of historic hardware changes, as pairs of plugged or filled mounting holes are visible on the face of each drawer where handles were previously located.
