Description
A Tamron SP 500mm f/8 Tele-Macro catadioptric (mirror) lens, Model 55BB. The lens features a metal barrel construction with a broad, ribbed rubber focus ring and is fitted with a silver-tone Tamron Adaptall-2 interchangeable mount. The optical design utilises a combination of mirrors and lenses to achieve a long focal length in a compact form factor. The barrel is marked in white with TAMRON SP and 1:8 500mm. Further markings on the lower ring include TELE MACRO, 5 degrees BBAR MC, and filter specifications of Phi 82-Phi 30.5. The focus scale is marked in both feet and metres, showing a close focus distance of 1.7 metres (5.6 feet). The lens utilises Broad-Band Anti-Reflection Multi-Coating (BBAR MC). It is accompanied by its original cylindrical black leatherette hard case featuring a silver-tone flip-lock buckle, carrying strap loops, and a red velvet-lined interior.
Condition report:
The lens barrel is in good cosmetic condition with very minor surface wear. The rubber focus ring remains tight and clean. The front glass element and internal mirrors appear clear of major defects, though some internal dust particles are visible under inspection. The hard case shows moderate external scuffing, cracking to the leatherette surface, and wear consistent with age and storage. Mechanical focus movement is smooth throughout the range. The item has not been tested with a camera body.
