Description
A set of seven 20th-century traditional English farmhouse style dining chairs and a matching oval pedestal dining table. The set comprises two carver armchairs and four side chairs. The carvers are of a Smoker’s Bow or Captain’s chair design, featuring a low, curved continuous back and armrest supported by turned spindles. The side chairs feature a matching spindle-back design with shaped top rails. All chairs are constructed with solid wood saddle-shaped seats, turned spindles, and turned legs joined by stretchers. The chairs and table are primarily constructed from pine or a light-coloured hardwood such as beech with a honey-coloured stain. The oval table features a solid pine top with a rounded edge, currently disassembled from a central turned pedestal base with four out-swept, shaped legs finished in white paint.
Condition report:
The lot is in used condition with visible wear throughout. The chairs show various surface scratches, scuffs, and wear to the finish consistent with age and use. One armchair seat has a prominent dark stain. The tabletop exhibits several watermarks, ring stains, and general surface wear. The painted pedestal base shows minor scuffs and marks to the finish.
