Description

This set of hand-coloured etchings is the work of Boris O’Klein (1893–1985), featuring scenes from his famous “Dirty Dogs of Paris” series. The collection depicts various anthropomorphic dog breeds in humorous, mischievous street scenes. Each work is executed with fluid intaglio line work characteristic of etching, and clear rectangular plate marks are visible around each composition. Selective hand-colouring has been applied in vibrant tones of red, green, blue, and yellow to highlight specific canine characters. Every print is signed “O’Klein” in pencil in the lower right margin and bears an individual title in pencil in the lower left margin. The titles present in this group are “Tu viens beau blond!”, “Eternels Ennemis”, “Chacun son Tour”, “Profanateur”, “A la queue”, and “oh! l’heure chérie!”. The works are housed in matching stained wooden frames with off-white mats.

Condition report:

All prints and their respective mats exhibit significant foxing and age-related toning across the paper surfaces. The wooden frames show scuffing, scratches, and minor finish loss, particularly along the edges and corners. Despite the paper discolouration, the etched lines remain crisp and the hand-applied colours are well-preserved.
