Lot 95:
Description
A lot comprising two pieces of mid-20th-century reproduction furniture. The first is a Queen Anne style kneehole dressing table or writing desk featuring burr walnut veneers and a serpentine-fronted profile. It is supported by four cabriole legs with shell-carved knees terminating in ball and claw feet. The desk is fitted with five drawers, including a central drawer with a shaped apron, all showing dovetail construction and featuring cast brass drop handles. One drawer interior contains a black metal retailer label which reads: Harvey Nichols & Co Ltd (of Knightsbridge, London) Complete House Furnishers, BOURNEMOUTH. The second piece is a small Georgian style bow-front chest of drawers finished in a mahogany-toned veneer. The chest features a configuration of two short over three long graduated drawers, each fitted with brass bail handles on stamped backplates, and is supported by bracket feet.
Condition report:
Both items exhibit significant surface wear and require restoration. There is heavy finish loss, prominent scratches, and deep scuffs across the top surfaces and along the edges. The veneers show signs of age-related wear and chipping in several areas. The brass hardware exhibits patination and tarnish consistent with age and use.
