Lot 138:
Description
This lot comprises two distinct North African flat-weave rugs. The first rug is a Sabra cactus rug featuring a saffron yellow field. The surface is decorated with a scattered arrangement of embroidered Amazigh symbols, including diamonds, crosses, and arrows, executed in various coloured threads. It features a simple border and a short fringe at one end. This variety is traditionally woven from agave plant fibre, often combined with wool or cotton for structural integrity. Approx. 250 x 140cm
The second rug is a Moroccan Berber kilim featuring a design of horizontal bands. The palette includes saturated red, dark brown, and cream tones. Intricate geometric tribal patterns and brocading are visible within several of the bands. The rug is finished with a long, hand-tied red fringe at one end. Approx. 135 x 190cm.
Both items showcase traditional Moroccan weaving styles and geometric motifs characteristic of the Atlas Mountain regions.
Condition report:
Both rugs appear to be in good overall condition with vibrant colours. There are no obvious signs of repair or structural damage to either piece. As hand-woven items, minor irregularities in the pattern and weave are present and consistent with their tribal origin.
