Description

A circular table top profusely decorated with geometric parquetry and marquetry in the Taracea style, likely of Anglo-Indian or North African origin. The design is centred on a twelve-pointed star motif, which radiates into a complex field of interlaced geometric patterns and stylised floral forms. The outer border features a series of repeating tree-like motifs, finished with a toothed, parquetry-inlaid rim. The inlay is composed of various stained and natural woods, including teak, with highlights of mother-of-pearl. The top is of veneered construction over a solid wood base. The reverse shows a plank-constructed underside with a circular outer apron, indicating it was originally intended for a side table, likely with a folding wooden stand. It is currently fitted with a modern brass D-ring hanging loop for wall mounting.

Diameter 70.5 cm.

Condition report:

The item is in a condition consistent with its age and use. There are minor losses and some lifting to the fine inlay work throughout the surface. The wood shows general surface wear, including scratches, scuffs, and minor staining. The reverse shows signs of old, inactive woodworm holes and some residue of white paint or plaster.
